It takes a lifetime to become a real master, but on our own example we have learned that with the knowledge of a few basic principles and with a little exercise everyone can learn enough to build or repair a simple dry stone wall. In the chapter ‘From the first wall to becoming a master‘ (in Croatian) of the manual ‘Building in stone’ (Slobodna Dalmacija, 4th edition, 2018), we go through the necessary equipment, the preparation of materials and the main construction and construction techniques of dry stone construction, from the most basic to the most complex. And in the most read article of this website from its beginnings, “We learned from professionals how to make a dry stone” (in Croatian) from 2009, we follow the restoration of a demolished dry stone wall at an archaeological site with photograph and film.
