Workshops

The skill of dry stone walling is best passed on through hands-on practice and learning directly from experienced craftsmen. Dry stone workshops offer exactly that, along with plenty of good company and fun, and the chance to take part with your own hands in restoring our landscapes! Protected natural or cultural areas, museums, associations, municipalities, companies, tourist boards, and others are motivated to organize various activities for the restoration and promotion of dry stone heritage, and so these dry stone hotspots grow from workshop to workshop.

Whenever possible, educational activities involve local masters, traditional bearers of knowledge and storytellers, from whom we learn and whose skills we document and help pass on. Workshop participants are mostly people who want to learn the basics of the craft so they can repair the wall of that old house in the countryside that’s falling apart and for which they can’t find a master; and those who study heritage topics theoretically through education but would love to feel the stone in their hands. Frequent participants also include tourists eager to look beyond the classic offer of sun and sea and experience the real essence of the place they’re visiting, as well as hikers, retirees, schoolchildren, and many others.

The main activity of DRAGODID association is precisely these dry stone workshops. If you’d like to involve our association in your activities for the promotion and education of dry stone heritage, please contact us in advance with details at info@dragodid.org. On our Dry-Stone Marketplace (Burza suhozida), you can also find other craftsmen and organizations available for mentoring and workshop facilitation, as well as a list of professional dry-stone craftsmen available for commercial work.

We update the calendar of dry-stone workshops and other promotional activities in Croatia and the surrounding region throughout the year. If you would like to add your public event to the calendar, please send us the details at info@dragodid.org.
